Lisa Armstrong from the Maternity team tells us about her experience of the Couch to 5km programme and how she found the experience.
I started Couch to 5km with the Health and Hustle a couple of years ago, but childcare challenges and my own lack of motivation meant I didn’t get very far.
In January this year, I started running again by myself but felt like I wasn’t making much progress, not really increasing the distance I was able to run, and giving up too easily.
At the end of April, I decided to go back and join the programme again to see if that would help, and it did! I completed the programme and can now run 5km (mostly) without stopping! I never thought I’d be a runner but the group make it so enjoyable, we all encourage each other and have fun along the way.
To anyone who isn’t sure or thinks they’ll never be able to run, just give it a try and you just might surprise yourself.
