21-2022 Crew Graduation

It’s been  a challenging journey with this cohort, dark, wet and cold nights to complete the nine week programme.  We started in November and now we are graduating in February.  Some of the highlights has made this group close as a Crew and they all have further ambitions to take their running forward.  

On a downside the navigation skills take time to mature with shouts of “don’t follow Gary” or “where has Bill gone”.  The choice of one direction or no direction springs to mind.  What has been encouraging is seeing when members of the group miss a run, they have gone out to make it up in their own time and that takes confidence and dedication.  We heard at the beginning how everyone felt about joining and the lack of confidence, but over the weeks we have seen a dramatic change as everyone starts to believe in their ability.  

The most impressive part of the group has to be the guys at the back who have formed a tail running group.  It’s good to see their confidence is not knocked by the faster members in the group and it is good to seeing everyone recognising their effort.  Along the journey the pink ladies formed an internal group always seen in pink and led by Cathy with her pinkish hair colour, I think this is why we have a hot pink beanie in the shop now.  On some of the runs I hear about the hills we run up and down but I can’t remember them, must be my old age, but no matter what route we take everyone has conquered them.  

During this group some of the returners have gone on and completed their 10km goals, which is a tremendous achievement and also sets the tone that anything is possible when you really set your mind to it.  So what’s next? The crew will graduate on Tuesday 8th February and will return as running buddies for the new Crew on Thursday 10th February for Week1Run1.  In association with ‘RunTalkRun’ our community has grown and friendships have formed.  Everyone who has taken part should be proud of their achievements and I look forward to our next ventures.
