HEALTH & HUSTLE SPOTLIGHT: Age is just a number!

At Health & Hustle, we see proof every week that movement has no age limit.  Running in your late 60/70s is not about defying time, it’s about embracing possibility, staying connected, and discovering what your body can do. Our senior runners show us exactly how powerful that can be.  Running later in life comes with realities: aches and pains, slower recovery, and sometimes bladder or bowel challenges that can feel off‑putting.  But with the right support, sensible pacing, and a community that celebrates every step, these barriers become manageable and the rewards become huge.   Today, we are celebrating some of our incredible members who remind us that age is just a number and community is everything and here’s what some of our senior members bring to the group:

Jude — Strength, Spirit, and 250+ Parkruns –
Jude is a cancer survivor and one of our most consistent runners, Jude has completed over 250 Parkruns and placed 1st in both the Robin Trust 1000‑mile and 1000‑km challenges.  She has joined us on run camps in the Canary Islands and travelled with the group to visit our charity partners in South Africa. Her story is one of resilience, adventure, and joy.

Lucia — Running With Purpose – Lucia is closing in on her 100th Parkrun milestone, has completed numerous 10km events, and recently smashed the London Big Half, raising funds for Carers UK. Her running journey is full of heart, commitment, and community impact.

Jens — The Triathlon Regular – A consistent sub‑30 Parkrunner, Jens continues to take part in triathlons and 10km events. His dedication shows that speed, strength, and ambition does not disappear with age, they simply evolve.  He leads the way in the overall speed and consistency of the group at Parkrun and is someone we can all be inspired by with his fitness levels.

Debi — Finding Her Feet Through Grief – After losing her husband, Debi joined Health & Hustle to help navigate her bereavement. She began with walking and has already progressed through Couch to 5K, achieving more in a short time than she ever expected. Together with Lucia, she co‑created Meet and Move at parkrun, bringing unpaid carers together to walk, jog, or run in a supportive space.

The Realities of Running in Your 70s

Running later in life is empowering — but honest:

  • Aches & pains happen, but strength work and warm‑ups help.
  • Bladder & bowel changes are common; planning and pelvic floor exercises make a difference.
  • Recovery takes longer, so rest days matter.
  • Confidence grows when you’re surrounded by people who cheer you on.

Why It Matters

Our older runners don’t just show up, they lift the whole community.  They join socials, support new members, share wisdom, and remind us that movement is about connection as much as fitness.  Their achievements inspire every generation within Health & Hustle. They prove that running isn’t about age, it’s about attitude, courage, and community.
