Lockdown Hints and Tips

 As we approach a year of the pandemic, who would of thought for one moment that we would be placed in a third lock down?  Whilst we are in another national lockdown it can be difficult to find things to occupy us, keep fit and keep children entertained. Here are some tips to help you out:

SAFETY DURING EXERCISE OUTSIDE - Regular walking, running, or cycling outside is a great way to stay active and healthy during the lockdown, however it is important to keep your distance and stay more than two metres away from others.   Just lately the weather conditions have been challenging, so make sure it’s safe to go out running or cycling, be seen and carry a phone for emergencies.  if you are not confident to run in these conditions try going out for a brisk walk as a better option!  Always plan your route before going out for a jog or cycle: this will help you to hit distance and time targets if you are following a program. If possible, try to aim for roads, neighbourhoods, and parks that will be quieter, safer, and less congested. I like to use canal runs early in the morning when it’s quiet. Picking less busy times will also help you to be more safe and responsible during outdoor exercise, especially when social distancing.  Always make sure someone knows when you are going out and the route you are taking, especially if exercising on your own, and that they are aware of your return time.  For running I use STRAVA and are in a few groups to help me "compete" with others.  Exercising during lockdown may not seem like the easiest thing to do, but it is possible and good for relieving stress and anxiety. Your physical and mental health will thank you.

STAYING CONNECTED - During the first lockdown people came up with some very innovative ways to keep connected to their friends and family. Whether it be virtual quizzes, murder mysteries, book clubs or just a virtual catch up with a close friend, keeping connected to our love ones is a great way to help boost our mental wellbeing.

KEEPING CHILDREN ENTERTAINED - As we contemplate a lockdown February half term in addition to the weekends, keeping the children entertained can be challenging, the Visit England website has details of many attractions you can visit virtually;

KEEP IN CONTACT - Don’t feel lonely and reach out if you are feeling down. We would encourage everyone to keep looking out for each other, keep in regular contact with people as this can really help us feel connected whilst we are living in a way that is very different to what we are all used to.

If any of these tips helps then great but please take care, stay safe and keep active
