“RunTalkRun” Couch to 30minutes #C230M

So why couch to 30minutes and not couch to 5km? Using the OneYou app programme is great for the organised programme, “But” how many can actually run a 5km in 30minutes?

We know 150 minutes of exercise each week sounds like a lot of time, but it’s not. That could be 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. The good news is that you can spread your activity out during the week, so you don’t have to do it all at once. You can even break it up into smaller chunks of time during the day.   Our programme is designed to build and work on stamina so you can do a 30minute session and maintain this as part of your active lifestyle.  We don’t promote time but work on technique such as learning to breath.  Try breathing to “We will rock you” by Queen, two breaths in and one breath out, it really helps.  Coordination with legs and arms are also important to coordinate with the breathing hence why your first sessions should solely concentrate on getting this right.  In between the runs we also promote doing strengthening exercise for legs and bums, but most importantly is the technique of recovery, when you get out of breath and carry out a controlled recovery.

When we start a course I always say when we get to the end of the course, think back to where you started and then you soon realise the progress you have made.  The motivation in the group is unbelievable and the chatter in the WhatsApp group is inspiring and very supportive.  If you’ve got the motivation  you will succeed.  Do you need to be a runner to join the group? The answer is “No” I am amazed at all the group members who completed the course and with the encouragement, especially when a member misses a run, they are so inspired that they go out on their own.

No matter if you are fast or slow, we always come in as a crew and when we complete the weekly programme, we walk the rest of the circuit to complete 5km so everyone is getting used to the distance.  Using the “RunTalkRun” programme allows the group to feel safe and bond as a group, the chatter is funny, supportive and creates a safe space to talk about good or bad times you might be experiencing.  It is not a professional therapy group but we have found it to be a great comfort when members are feeling low.  The group is open for everyone to take part and we are seeing partners joining the group to experience the programme.  If you want to know more or just turn up for a taster drop H8HKevin a line or join us on a Tuesday or Thursday evening at 5pm, meeting at Sanger House, Brockworth Business Park GL34FE.
