From darkness into the light the programme finally concluded its couch to 30 minutes programme with our graduation. The members of the course that completed the programme were presented with certificates and medals by Cath Leech the Chief Finance Officer, Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group and the course leader Kevin Gannaway-Pitts.
Why couch to 30minutes and not 5km? We decided to make the course more achivable by completing a final 30 minute run, which is still a test for the candidates, and this is a good bench mark for going onto complete 5km or join park runs. The course has showcased some real achievements, in particular, Leslie who has now found that running can be enjoyable and has experienced all the physical and mental health benefits. The group has a real bond and everyone that has taken part, have their own personal reasons for joining, at the sometime feeling safe to express their feelings with fellow members of the group. Who came first and who came last on the runs? The answer is always one of the run leaders, as we run as a group known as the Crew and this will continue in our next course that starts on Tuesday 31 May 2022.
There are always highlights that make the course fun, such as the start where we finish week 1 to week 4 with some fun activities around the Brockworth Circle in the middle of the business park. From week 5 to graduation the focus and routes change but again its fun all the way and the sense of achievement at the end of run is alway measured is smiles, which we have plenty of evidence from the photos taken on each run. During the course we have some of the experienced members who go onto achieve personal challenges and this time we had Nigel, Rob and Gary complete their first half marathons. This is a real achievement considering that they all started off with the couch programme and have now become regular members of the Monday and Wednesday 10km dashes. During this course we have seen Jenny O go from 5km to complete her 10km distance and Sammi has reduced her PB at park run which is a massive achievement with her personal health journey. Congratulations to Marie, Sally, Sarah, Karl, Maxine and Leslie of graduating from the course and we look forward to your next challenges.
Looking forward we are now launching the next course on Tuesday 31 May, meeting at Sanger House in Brockworth at 5pm. The hardest part it is turning up, but once you cross the start line you will never look back and will find a new passion for activity and the opportunity to join in with other like minded people who want to make a positive change to their health and wellbeing. You will have personal 1-2-1 coaching from the run leaders and will also run with a run buddy who will be your peer support during the course. There is no stress and no pressure placed on anyone but the most important thing is that you enjoy the sessions. Looking forward to seeing all our new running friends soon.
