What’s happening with the Hustle?

This year Health&Hustle has celebrated 4 years since it’s officially formation in 2016 and under stranger circumstances than normal.  With lots of sporting events cancelled, the Health&Hustle has continued to thrive with membership growing through the pandemic.  We are pleased to say virtual technology has supported activity through lockdown and had a positive impact on mental/physical wellbeing.

Granted we have had to do things a little differently to keep active p, which has really helped members stay active.  Launching the Health&Hustle on STRAVA prior to lockdown also helped support the running group with weekly challenges, alongside the step challenges for the workweek and monthly team challenges.  With the temporary suspension of parkruns, the parkrun challenge has been paused but we look forward to continue when restrictions are fully lifted and Parkrun resumes.

The chat on the WhatsApp groups has allowed some of the members to express their personal challenges under lockdown and with help of the group pulling together, this has provided much needed support driven by everyone in the group.  During lockdown we have been busy with competing in various challenges such as the Avon Challenge sponsored by the RUH Bath Allied Health Professionals.  In July a number of us took part in the Gloucester 10km virtual challenge raising funds for Sue Ryder as well as the normal Fitbit challenges.

Our biggest challenge started the beginning of July following months of planning with Nikki Budding from Hope for Tomorrow, launching the 1000miles challenge over a year.   Supporting this challenge will help raise much needed funds to keep the charity mobile units on the road, delivering key cancer services in the community.  After the first month of the challenge, the results coming in have been amazing, we have some big miles being recorded but also have some amazing people taking part with some inspiring stories about their journeys.

The Health&Hustle are pleased to announce out association with Active Gloucestershire and as such, we are part of the “We Can Move” Council along with our new association with Gloucester Healthy Lifestyle services.  With over 650 members signed up in the hustle, we are seeing some significant achievements with activity.  No matter how small the achievement, we are proud that our members are active and healthy.  During the pandemic we were made aware of one of our members who was admitted into hospital with COVID and is now on the road to recovery using the Health&Hustle to support her rehabilitation.  Read her story

What is on the horizon with the Health&Hustle? We will continue to provide challenges and in line with government guidelines we are relaunching our popular couch to 5km programme.   With so many events cancelled this year we are looking forward to taking part in next years challenges around the county and more fund raising activities along the way.
