What’s been going on with the Health&Hustle?

We start this update off with a big congratulations to members of the Hustle who have completed the London marathon.  This for some is the ultimate achievement after training and taking on half marathons in preparation for this event.  Some were lucky to run in London but some completed the 26 miles virtually.  From all of us at the Hustle thank you for being inspirational as your journey will be something for members to aspire to.

As we go into Week8 with H8H crew, we are looking forward to graduation with celebrating the successes of everyone in the group.
The couch to 30minutes programme is certainly a winner with everyone who has joined the programme.  We are amazed that some of the group have gone on and joined Parkrun completing 5km non stop, as well as a couple of the group conquering 10km.
Due to the success of this programme, we will be launching our next programme on Tuesday 2nd November 2021.  This will focus on new members completing the programme and also conditioning those who have graduated to become running buddies.  The support network has grown considerably and also seen members completing the programme virtually and connecting through our social network platforms.

Our partnership with Aspen Medical Practice has seen the patient participation group launch a ‘WalkTalkWalk’ group for patients, and so far we have had a lot of interest.  On the first meeting over 40 patients took part, which was a big success for the launch.  I Joined the Saintbridge walk, even the rain didn’t stop play with a smaller group walking around the balance pond.  This initiative is aimed at giving patients the opportunity to get active through moving at their pace, however we are seeing additional benefits with connecting patients who have suffered through isolation and loneliness.  It is true, everyone has a story to tell and we can see early on, how this initiative is supporting patients take control of their personal health by becoming active and building a walking community.

In the workplace we are looking at how we can use activity to energise colleagues.  We recently held an online facilitated session concentrating on improving moral in the workplace, what can we do to boost morale and provide opportunities for staff to benefit from taking a healthy approach within work.  It was interesting seeing the various themes emerging that has an impact on mental health, especially with the return to the office as a phased approach.  We recognised our greatest asset is our staff and investment into a healthy workforce will help to improve some of the themes recognised.
