Severn Bridge 10km Review

Sunday 27th August 2023, a day of rest for most, but for the 5-10km runners it was an early start at 06:15 to dive to Wales and get across the Severn Bridge before it closed at 07:30 for the Severn Bridge Half Marathon and 10km event.  Early registration was the order of the day to beat the queues and get a coffee before going to the start line ready for the 08:45 start.  It was all going to plan until Adam rang to say the bridge has been closed and he might not make the start.  Some would give up, but not Adam, he decided to walk from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 to Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 and meet us at the start line.  Guess what? He made it in time to start with us all, which meant he had to go the same route back on foot to get his car, so instead of 10km, he got a half marathon in.  That’s what you call dedication.

We had a game plan for the run, start strong and finish strong, which we all did in our way.  Leslie managed to put her super women cape on as she was recovering from a running injury, which meant she had to run through the pain barrier which she managed to do and complete the race, with support from her physiotherapist who had advised through the week, how to manage the run following extensive exercises and no running for a week.  It was great to see Louise join us from GHC SaLT services and Bridget Davies from GHC Children’s Nursing.  The serious side of taking part in the event was to continue with our fund raising for Cheltenham & Gloucester Hospitals charity.  With one more event to go next week at the Cheltenham Half Marathon and 10km, we aim to raise further funds for the charity.  Keep following the brilliant progress made by the members and check out the video review below.
